Stop Dry Frizzy Hair

 Let’s be real for a second: having dry, frizzy hair is less of a "bad hair day" and more of a "full-time commitment to looking like you just stuck your finger in a light socket." I spent most of my early twenties in a committed relationship with my flat iron, convinced that if I just sizzled my hair into submission, it would eventually learn its lesson. Spoiler alert: It didn’t. It just got angrier.

I’ll never forget the "Great Humidity Incident of 2018." I was heading to an outdoor wedding in New Orleans—a city basically built inside a steamer trunk. I spent two hours perfecting a sleek, glassy blowout. I looked like a shampoo commercial. I felt untouchable. Then, I stepped out of the hotel lobby. Within four minutes—I kid you not—my hair had expanded to three times its original volume. I didn’t just have frizz; I had a structural hazard. By the time I reached the ceremony, I looked like a very stressed-out Pomeranian. That was the day I realized that fighting frizz with heat is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

Stop Treating Your Hair Like an Old Rug

If you want to kill the frizz, you have to stop being so aggressive. Most of us treat our hair like we’re scrubbing a stubborn stain out of a carpet. We use harsh sulfates that strip away every last drop of natural oil, and then we wonder why our hair feels like hay. Your scalp produces sebum for a reason; it’s basically free, high-end moisturizer. If you’re washing your hair every single day, you’re essentially evicting the very thing keeping the frizz at bay.

Also, can we talk about towels? If you are still rubbing your head dry with a giant, scratchy bath towel, we need to have an intervention. That friction raises the hair cuticle, which is basically an open invitation for moisture in the air to get in and ruin your life. Swap that towel for an old cotton T-shirt or a microfiber wrap. Pat, don't scrub. It feels a bit ridiculous at first—like you’re swaddling a tiny, fragile baby—but your hair will actually stay smooth instead of reaching for the heavens.

Moisture is Your Only Real Friend

The "secret" to stopping frizz isn't a $50 serum; it’s deep, soul-level hydration. Frizzy hair is just thirsty hair. When the hair shaft is dry, the cuticle lifts up to try and grab moisture from the air. That’s why humidity is our mortal enemy. To fix it, you need to seal that cuticle shut.

I’m a huge fan of "slugging" for hair. Before bed, I’ll coat my ends in a lightweight oil (think jojoba or argan), wrap it up, and let it marinate. You’ll wake up looking a bit like a grease monkey, but once you rinse, the difference is night and day. And for the love of all things holy, stop skipping conditioner. Use a leave-in treatment while your hair is still soaking wet to lock that water in.

 It’s about creating a barrier so the humidity stays out and the shine stays in. It won't happen overnight, but eventually, you'll stop looking like a static electricity experiment and start looking like a human being again.
